Inspired by a post over at Feminist Law Professors and the #1 College Basketball team in the country, I present to you UNC’s fight song. Well, technically. Apparently, a trip to the UNC Music Library page revealed that there are tons of school songs we never sang. At every football and basketball game we could be sure to sing the fight song “I’m a Tar Heel Born” which makes up the last verse of the school’s alma mater, “Hark The Sound.”
Hark the sound of Tar Heel voices
Ringing clear and …

TNC did a pretty good job of summing up what I feel about the word nigger/nigga. It’s also kind of apropos because just the other day, someone halfway called me out about using the word. On Twitter of all places! I was addressing someone who is a known asshole (peace, king) and said something to the effect of “you and the rest of them niggas…” Now he replied with “chill with the n-word” which I suppose I can respect. Another person outside of that conversation hit me up like “Didn’t …

I’ve already given a shout to Passive Aggressive Notes for being a cool blog to check for. I was looking around today and came upon this submission. I thought it was frickin’ hilarious. Peep Oliver’s two notes to his flatmates and Sarah’s succinct, yet witty, response:
the identity property of flatmates October 26th, 2008
sarah in new zealand says all three of these notes went up before 10 a.m. on monday (trash day). adds sarah: “we can only assume that oliver keeps some kind of detailed diary about everything that happens …

I hate email forwards, online petitions and the like. This, however, I gotta pass on. Maybe you’ve heard of Che Grand and you’re already in the know. Maybe you don’t. In any event, I’m putting my Bourgie endorsement behind this dude. He’s a genuine MC and a nice guy (thanks for sharing that Goose with me, Che). While I’ve been rocking Che Grand joints like The Fixtape and random guest spots on my iPod, fans want to hear this album he’s been working on since, like, forever: Everything’s Good Ugly.
There …

but Sarah Palin just told me that I’ve got VIP access now. Sweet! Ta-Nehisi Coates suggested bloggers should post this around the web. Guess he was flabbergasted Palin would basically use religion and the fear of eternal hell-fire to guilt believers into voting for her.
I think the clip is ridiculous, partly because she sounds funny and partly because she takes Madeline Albright’s quote out of context. She even misquotes it by using the word “support” instead of “help”. I have to agree wholeheartedly with a commenter on Coates’ blog …

What: Upwardly mobile urbanites conflicted by the challenges of keepin’ it real
Habitat: Conference rooms, ‘hoods
Pet peeves: Hackneyed Diddy-esque excess
I had to laugh at this piece in Radar Magazine. Every issue they feature a new “species” and this month it’s the Neo Buppie. According to writer Brian Marsh,
New York’s young black urban professionals are definitely upping their game. Rejecting the ghettoizing BET stereotype of the bling-flossing, Cristal-drinking playa, a subtler breed of brothers (and sisters) are deftly navigating their way between outer-borough neighborhoods like Bed-Stuy and Fort Greene …

Glamour magazine online has a blog called Smitten. it’s alright but I mostly like the new feature which shares tales of awkward sexual experiences. Let’s face it, we’ve all had them. This had me literally laughing out loud. Can’t wait for more.

“My Horribly Awkward Sexual Experience.”

…First up is a hilarious 29-year-old editor in New York. Her steamy tale, after the jump…

One summer, I was interning in D.C., and I went out with a junior politician. He was a total pleaser–didn’t drink, very handshake-y, a really good guy.
At the end of …

Holy Taco – Throwing a party is a lot of work, so it’s a real disappointment when somebody you invited ruins it. Here are 8 types of people to watch out for before you make your next invite list.
8. Person Who Insists On Cleaning Up Your Party While It’s Still Going On

WHERE YOU CAN FIND THEM: Right in front of you, asking if your drink is finished. Or, methodically moving through the party with a white trash bag and a look on their face as if they’ve been hunting Osama …
