The no-kids-allowed movement is spreading
What’s the matter with kids today and why doesn’t anyone want them around? In June, Malaysia Airlines banned babies from many of their first class cabins, prompting other major airlines to consider similar policies.Lately, complaints about screaming kids are being taken seriously, not only by airlines, but by hotels, movie theaters, restaurants, and even grocery stores.
I really have no problem with this at all. Even parents want to have space away from their darlings.
You’re not a monster if you want a childless Harry Potter night when kids can attend ...

Just read this article on GOOD – Do All American Schools Need to Teach Chinese?:
Given the phenomenal growth of the Chinese economy, more American schools are adding Mandarin Chinese to their foreign language offerings. But no Western nation is taking Chinese language education more seriously than Sweden. Time reports that the Swedish education minister Jan Björklund recently announced plans to add Chinese to their nationwide grade school curriculum. According to Björklund, learning Chinese is going to “be much more important, from an economic perspective” than the traditionally offered European languages. Do American schools need to do ...

June is Men’s Health Month and in 1994, the U.S. Congress designated the week leading up to Father’s Day as Men’s Health Week – a time to raise awareness of preventable health problems and encourage men and boys to seek out early detection and treatment of disease. As a feminist and women’s health advocate, I am well aware of the continued threats to women’s sexual and reproductive health as well as the need to increase access and awareness around those issues.

I took stock of my worth – what skills, experience, expertise and potential I brought to the office – and decided that if I did nothing, I’d have the security of my job but I would continue to be a frustrated and unfulfilled employee. While there may be other factors at play that prevent you from moving up and earning a salary commensurate with your potential, I cannot stress ...

That’s what happened last weekend when the mere mention of C&C Music Factory led to reminiscing about Snap!, Crystal Waters, and Ce Ce Peniston, which set me off thinking about the 90s, the great dance music we jammed to, and the images of sexy, in-charge women.
I was young then – just a 4th grader in 1990 – so when I think of that ...

I was at my bar review course just a minute before we were scheduled to start a riveting lecture on Real Property when a strange honking sound and flashing lights went off. It was a fire alarm and not having heard it before in that particular building, everyone kind of stood still with a puzzled look on our faces until it sunk in. OH! FIRE! Gabourey Sidibe. She’s the newest star to pop up on the Hollywood scene. Everyone loves her for her portrayal of Precious Jones in the Oscar-nominated film Precious: Based on the Novel PUSH by Sapphire. The movie was a critical darling and Sidibe has been praised not only for her acting, but for her out-of-nowhere jump into the scene. We’ve heard the story many times, as it’s a favorite for interviewers: Sidibe was a college student who cut class to audition for Precious on a Monday, got a call ...

Tufts University is leading the way by offering applicants to the Class of 2014 (wow, typing that made me feel old) the option to submit one-minute videos about themselves.
